This is the story of father and son. The father is 79 years old, the son is 53. The father is a well-known conductor; the son an unlucky artist. They live on different sides of the planet, and both are content with that. Their relationship has long turned into one of love-hate; more hatred than love. The father calls his son by the children’s nickname Ptitsyn, and this enrages the son. The son calls the father Your Majesty, and this enrages the father. When the  father is diagnosed with a fatal disease, son and father embark on a difficult path from hatred to love.

Sasha Korolev has a congenital disorder. At school he is mocked by his peers, and there is no help to expect.
The boy has coped with the illness, but started hating the father. When he finished school, Sasha left home and stopped all contact with the father. Over the past 15 years he has become the best business consultant in the country, who has helped hundreds of businesses out of crisis. “You have no a crisis, you have temporary difficulties”, – Sasha would say to his clients, having gone along a difficult path himself. And one day, a new order unexpectedly gives him the opportunity to settle accounts with the father…

Liuba Vasnetsova lives in a provincial boarding school, dreams of finishing it sooner rather than later and go to St Petersburg to become a stewardess. The future seems bright: after boarding school she receives the keys to a new apartment, with a new life ahead.

But on the day of her graduation she learns that she is not an orphan: her father is alive and not dead, as she was told earlier. The girl is shaken and decides to find him.

In this regiment, the capital’s lieutenant Grigory Kolokoltsev – inspired by progressive ideas – does his service. A military tribunal and execution await the soldier charged with the offence. Kolokoltsev asks Count Tolstoy for help – and he decides to protect the innocent man. The pointed history about the complexity of choice and fidelity to one’s ideals is based on real events.

The actors in the film are not professionals, but each hero “plays himself”, relates his own history, and exists in the given circumstances.

The film is based on Sergei Dovlatov’s novel “Pushkin Hills” [Zapovednik], with the action transposed into our days. Konstantin, a songwriter and master guitarist, runs away from numerous problems to the nature reserve Mikhailovskoye. Kostya has long lost any way of income and has almost given up hope to be heard, living by sheer inertia and often drawing on alcohol. His wife and daughter are going to Canada, and in his head he constantly turns around the question: what exactly has gone wrong? How can he put it right? Does anyone need his creative work at all, or has he just talked himself into that? Maybe Konstantin has enough energy to change things, but he strongly doubts that: indeed, why and for whom should he try.

Nevertheless, the nature reserve is the right place to collect his thoughts, break the minefield of his own life into sections, and get to work.

Sviatoslav decides to start his own business and open a restaurant to create for Asya the living conditions she is accustomed to. 

A number of serious obstacles suddenly appear in the way of the young man and menace his life… He finds out that he has a secret ill-wisher who wants to ruin him and his business. The young man goes to the extreme, gradually untangling the secret plot… At the end of the story Sviatoslav manages to answer the question about his enemy…

Egor is a vet at a training facility for hunting dogs in a remote region of the country. Egor is willing to take on any job to get closer to the facility’s owner and his near and dear. He wants the impossible — to become a member of that family.

Because of the rain, the water in the river rises, blocking the ways home. In search for a crossing, Andrei and Nadia get lost in the depth of the Siberian taiga. And their difficult way of fighting with personal fears and correcting past mistakes begins. The forest becomes a metaphor for life, in which the two are lost.
